Welcome to van der plas sprouts!

Market leader in the field of sprouts

What are sprouts?

Sprouts in short

Sprouts are young, newly sprouted plants. There are all kinds of sprouts. They are made from seeds of vegetables that you probably know as full-grown varieties such as broccoli, radishes, beetroot, leeks and so on. We do not let the vegetables grow to full size, but harvest them just after they have germinated. This ensures that they contain much more nutrients.

More about sprouts

The vegetables are harvested as soon as the first leaves are visible. That makes the vegetable a seedling.

That differs per type of sprout. For an overview, see 'all sprouts' to find out what nutrients each sprout contains. Most sprouts contain the same substances that are also present in the adult plant, but usually much more, since the young plants have to do it themselves at first, because there are not enough roots present.

Besides being packed with vitamins, minerals, enzymes and proteins, they often also contain substances to protect plants against fungi, bacteria and viruses. These are so-called bio-active substances that can also protect humans against these threats, and there are many more of them than in adult plants.

Why sprouts?

Super healthy!

Did you know that sprouts are packed with vitamins, minerals, enzymes and proteins? This is because we harvest them at an early stage, especially when compared to mature vegetables. These substances are easier for humans to absorb when the seeds have sprouted. This is because of the thin cell wall of sprouts.

Organic Cultivation

Produced in the Netherlands

Curious about the whole cultivation process?

Breeding process

All sprouts are grown at Van der Plas in a hydroponic culture. The average growth process of sprouts is between 5 and 10 days. Because of our specialism and the turnover rate, we harvest our products daily fresh, 365 days a year. After harvesting, the sprouts are washed immediately. The sprouts are packaged at our premises. The sustainable PVC-free packaging is also available in a resealable version. The various packages are then distributed throughout the Netherlands and the rest of Europe.

Who we are

T.van der Plas B.V. is a family business.

At Van der Plas, it all started with one product: bean sprouts. A few years later, the company expanded from a bean sprout nursery to a sprout nursery with four different types of sprouts: Alfalfa, Radish, sprout mix and Bean sprout. By now, the counter has reached 20 different varieties. Van der Plas Sprouts has grown into one of the largest producers and trendsetters in the field of sprouts in Europe. In addition to innovation in the field of sprouts and packaging, Van der Plas also considers food safety to be of paramount importance and we have various certificates.

Pepijn van der plas

The oldest of the three. He arranges everything within van der Plas, solves the acute problems. The entire logistics process both internally and externally. He also likes to innovate cultivation methods and packaging possibilities.

The eldest is also the most burgundian of the family. Apart from still sitting at the kitchen table with Father (Theo van der Plas), we can also regularly be found in a restaurant. Pepijn is the proud father of two children. Because Pepijn loves food so much, he tries to come to the company by bike every now and then.

Eva van der Plas

The middle one of the three. She is responsible for the entire operational management and deals with long-term strategy. She is curious and always looking for new markets to sell sprouts.

She is sporty and is regularly at the gym at 7am. She has also become a real cargo mum.

Sven van der Plas

The youngest of the three. He is the cultivation specialist within the family and ensures that the sprouts can be harvested fresh every day. The challenge is that he grows everything organically and needs to make daily or weekly adjustments. Quality is of paramount importance to him, he always wants to have the best and most beautiful quality on the table.

Sven is a striver, and is at the gym several times a week. He also likes to be outside and his dream is to have his own farm.
